Why can't i stop missing my ex-friend?

We were friends before lovers, we matched so beautifully. After 2 years, we knew we didnt get along as lovers so good, but had an amazing bond. Right now I miss him as my friends..to laugh at things only we knew, and love each other in both ways. I want to text him so bad, but I know he s cold, thats how we ve always been after some days of no contact.
I dont know what to do

i feel like you already know he gets cold after no contact, and that’s what makes this so hard. do you think you miss him as he is now, or the friendship you two had before everything changed?

Hey, I just miss the way we were and how he doesnt want us to change and grow together. I do not miss the person he is now, I know he s bad for me, I know he disrespected me and I dont want that in my future ever again. It just hurts that I HAVE TO accept that they will no be longer in my life after meeting my family, going on trips, having my first times with him etc. Its hard, but I hope I can stay nc atleast 3 months and let go slowly

i wanted to text my ex so badly too, especially when the silence got heavy.

YES, YES, YES. Whenever I tried to explain this to someone, no one really understood. My ex was also my best friend. We used to gossip together, joke around, talk about everything, and he was always there for me. We were so close that I would even choose the outfit I was going to wear for a date with him together with him. 😭 We would literally pick out the outfit together even though it was supposed to be a surprise for him.
Losing my best friend probably hurt me even more than losing the relationship itself. I didn’t just lose my boyfriend; I lost our jokes, our conversations, and the person who had been there for me through everything.
Yesterday, I saw something on Instagram that said that when a relationship ends, you become the only person left who speaks a language that used to belong to two people, because no one else understands the language you created together. That felt so painfully true.
Losing a partner is hard. But losing someone who was also your best friend is even harder. Especially when I realized during this process that my other friends didn’t understand me as much as I thought they would, it hurt even more.
So don’t be sad. Sometimes things really do need to end. Maybe right now you’re laughing alone at the jokes you used to share, but eventually, this feeling will pass too. Because what you’re missing isn’t just him; it’s the little world the two of you created together.

losing someone who was your best friend too is such a specific kind of ache, because i missed the stupid jokes and little routines just as much as i missed the relationship.
