I understand you. I know you cried at least once this week. Maybe you even spent an entire day crying over everything. But don’t be sad—you’re not alone. I’ve been through the same thing, and I’m here to share the method I use to stop myself from crying. 😭
1. First, ask yourself why you’re crying.
What is hurting you right now? Is it anxiety, a memory, or do you simply miss them?
2. If it’s anxiety, don’t try to solve it immediately.
If thoughts like “What if they forget me?” or “What if they never come back?” are making you cry, give yourself five minutes and then think about them again. If you can’t make sense of where your anxiety is coming from, write down your thoughts and talk to an AI to help you understand whether what you’re experiencing is anxiety-related. Sometimes simply putting our thoughts into words can help us understand what we’re actually feeling.
3. If it’s a memory or you miss them, redirect your attention.
Missing them is completely normal. But instead of staying stuck in that memory, keep yourself busy. Go outside, talk to a friend, take a shower, go for a walk, work out, or do something you enjoy.
4. If you don’t know why you’re crying, don’t blame yourself.
You can still try the things above. Sometimes we don’t even know why we’re crying, and that’s okay.
And most importantly: Sometimes you’re going to cry. Sometimes you might cry for days or even weeks. The goal isn’t to never cry. What matters is not losing yourself. Let yourself be sad, cry, and feel your pain—but don’t disconnect completely from your life.
You are valuable. You are special. Your relationship was special to you too. But that relationship belongs to the past now. The most important relationship you have right now is the one you have with yourself.
Take care of yourself. Eat, sleep, go outside, talk to people, and keep living your life, even if it’s just a little bit at a time. Healing doesn’t mean suddenly feeling nothing one day. It means that, over time, the pain takes up less space in your life.
I promise, you will heal. 🤍

when you say “don’t lose yourself,” what was the first little thing that helped you feel like yourself again?
i found it helped to stop fighting the tears and then do one small thing for myself after, eat something, shower, step outside, text a friend. i couldn't control when i cried, but i could keep showing up for my own life.
Exactly
this hit close to home. i used to feel guilty every time i cried after my breakup, like i was somehow going backwards, but some days i just needed to let it out.
No, don't feel bad. You need to throw your feelings out.
