My ex and I were in a long-distance relationship and things had been difficult for a while. I begged him many times to work things out because I genuinely wanted to save the relationship. I tried to respect his boundaries followed many of the things he was uncomfortable with adjusted myself tried to understand his needs and kept putting effort into making things work despite how hard the distance was.
I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable. I just wanted better communication. Whenever I wanted to talk about a problem or fix something between us he would sometimes say that communication doesn’t apply to every situation especially when he needed time alone or wanted to think. I tried to respect that and give him the space he asked for.
We were actually talking about ways to fix things so I thought we were still trying. Then suddenly he decided he wanted to end the relationship.
He sent me this incredibly long final message about how much he loved me how grateful he was for everything we shared how difficult it was to let me go and how leaving me was his final act of love.
I didn’t reply. Honestly I’m just exhausted. I feel completely drained after everything I’ve already given to this relationship.
Then I found out that a huge part of his emotional goodbye was actually copied from something he saw on TikTok. 😂
At this point I don’t want another dramatic ending. I just want silence and peace.
But now I’m wondering is it okay to simply leave his final message on seen? Do I owe him some kind of response or closure or is silence enough when he’s already made the decision to leave?
I tried everything. I gave this relationship everything I had especially knowing how difficult an LDR already was for both of us.

honestly, i think you’re allowed to leave it on seen. he made the decision to leave, and after giving that relationship everything you had, you don’t owe him one more emotional performance just because he wrote a long message.
i begged for conversations that never came, then got this huge goodbye that somehow made me feel even more empty. when i finally stopped replying, the silence felt like the first peaceful thing i’d had in months.
i’d be wondering the same thing though, especially after finding out part of it was copied. do you actually want to reply because there’s something left you need to say, or because you feel guilty leaving him without an answer?
Do what would make you most comfortable and help you the most with your healing. Short answer: do what you want. Think of no one other than yourself and your healing.
