Why did he leave when we had so many plans?

Today I went to IKEA with my sibling, and while we were walking around, I suddenly realized that I had genuinely imagined a future with him.
I had met his mother, his siblings, and even his aunt. This year, before graduation, I was planning to introduce him to my dad. We were planning to get married within two years. There were so many things at IKEA that we had talked about buying for our future home. We had literally already decided which one we were going to get, all the way down to the garlic press. 😭
Walking around those things today and remembering all of this made me really angry. Because we genuinely had dreams together. We hadn’t just imagined the big things; we had even planned the smallest, most ordinary details of our life together.
I think what hurts me the most is this: For the first time in my life, I felt like I was fighting to keep someone in my life while that person was fighting just as hard to leave it.
I was thinking about our future, our love, and the life we could build together because I wanted to stay. He chose to leave.
I still struggle to understand it. How can one person be so determined to keep someone in their life while the other can be so certain about leaving?
Right now, I feel like I’m in such a strange place. It’s almost as if the next chapter of my life is already planned in my head. I know what kind of relationship I want, what kind of home and life I want to build, and what I want to share with someone in the future.
I have the whole blueprint.
I’m just missing the man.
And sometimes it genuinely feels like I’m ready to move on to the next chapter of my life, but the person who was supposed to be in that life suddenly disappeared.

the garlic press got me 😭 i remember grieving all those tiny plans after my breakup, the stupid little grocery lists and furniture we had picked out hurt more than some of the big memories. it’s brutal when you realize you were building a whole life in your head with someone who had already stepped out of it.

yeah, sometimes it hits the most in small details like that garlic press. It is hard now, and you have to go through those feeling to let go eventually. I'm sure that one day, you'll see and live a brighter future and choose the perfect garlic press with the person who deserves your love.

A lot depends on how one behaves in a relationship. Some people love their partners, so they want to fix everything, fight for that relationship, keep it as close as possible. But there are also people who want closeness, but are afraid of it, so when difficult topics come into play, such people want to run away. I don't know what your relationship looked like, but it doesn't have to mean that he never cared. Sometimes it just seems to us that it was easy for the other person to leave, because we don't see the emotions on the outside.
