Why do situationships feel more exciting than long-term love?

Sometimes, I wonder why a situationship can feel more exciting than years of love.

Maybe because in a situationship, they give freely what they once withheld from someone who stayed for years the time, effort, attention, dates, reassurance and affection.

It hurts realizing that someone else gets the version of them you spent years asking for.

Maybe it’s not that the situationship is better. Maybe they’re simply willing to give more when there’s nothing to lose.
