Why do we torture ourselves with sad music after a breakup?

Author

why would someone torture themselves by listening to sad music and watching dolorous videos when they’re miserable they like the way it makes them breakdown it’s somehow getting addicted to the feelings of sorrows and depression although we can simply skip it and watch/listen to lively music??
p.s. I’m a person who’ve done this alotttt but I quit it.

what finally shifted it for me was catching myself mid-song and forcing a switch to something with a beat, even if it felt fake at first. after a few times the craving for that deep sorrow started loosening its grip.

I tried that too but I didn’t hold on to it so I gave up but thankfully it’s over now

I actually used all my energy all my feelings all my sadness to the point I started feeling numb I stopped crying and the music doesn’t affect me anymore I don’t feel the same it’s similar to a trauma or a shock after all what happened

My music choices highly depend on my mood. But I've been avoiding sad music. I'm determined to heal from this music and don't want anything to bring me down.

i used to do the exact same thing after my breakup. put on the saddest playlist and just let myself fall apart for hours because somehow that heavy feeling felt more real than trying to pretend i was fine.

exactly that might be the point!! it’s feeling relatable, feeling what you’re actually going through and letting it manifest. I hope you’re doing better now.

because u need to vent this is something u cant keep in, once u do next time u hear the sad song or videos it won't affect you emotionally as it did before.
