Why did my long-distance relationship end?

Author

In 2022 my ex and I started a long-distance relationship when I moved to Australia and she moved to Germany to study. Our long-term plan was for me to move to Germany after finishing my degree and learning the language. However she broke up with me today because she felt exhausted by the distance uncertain about our timeline and weighed down by cultural family obligations as the eldest daughter.
We ended on good terms purely due to the distance but I am devastated. I still want to focus on personal growth and hopefully reconcile with her in the future though I worry about her moving on with someone else.
Has anyone in a similar LDR situation successfully gotten back together with their partner? Is it realistic to focus on self-improvement with the hope of winning her back or am I being foolish?

My flatmate did. She broke up with her girlfriend because her girl friend has some issues, she’s autistic and my flatmate is neurotypical, which causes some friction in how they both function day to day.

I just broke it off after three years on a mid distance relationship with my girlfriend because she consistently was unable to help come up with a plan on how to close the location gap. I offered many solutions and she rejected them all and offered none of her own. Distance can work but after four years you all should have a very strong plan in place of how you’re going to close the distance and what the next 3-5 years look like and make that commitment to one another.
