Why did he have to sleep with our friend on the day we broke up?

Author

My partner, or rather my ex-partner now, is being blackmailed by at least two men. From what he told me, they have sexting recordings involving him and are threatening to show them to his homophobic family. He told me that they were forcing him into sexual contact.

So obviously, I tried to support him. I felt sorry for him, I was worried about him, and I genuinely believed he was a victim of a situation he couldn't escape from.

And then I found out that, besides those two men, there is also a mutual friend of mine and my ex's.

And they sleep together too.

They had sex today too.

TODAY.

I almost fucking fainted when I heard that. THIS IS OUR MUTUAL FRIEND. Not some random guy I'd never heard of before. Someone we both know.

And through all of this, my ex is telling me that he loves me.

He had previously told me that he loved that mutual friend too. And now he's trying to convince me that he only loves me, even though he had sex with that same person on the exact same day.

And that's when my brain just completely shut down.

Because what the fuck am I supposed to do with that? How am I even supposed to make those things fit together?

I know that by that point we had already broken up. I KNOW. It's not about him being forbidden from seeing someone else after we broke up.

It's about the fact that practically at the same time, he was texting me that he loved me and that he wanted to marry me.

While on that exact same day, he was having sex with our mutual friend.

And then I find out that he had been coming to Poland specifically to see both that mutual friend and those two men who were blackmailing and exploiting him.

Jesus fucking Christ.

The more I think about everything that happened over the past year, the more sick I feel.

Because suddenly I'm starting to understand things that I didn't understand before.

All those little situations. All those moments that felt weird. All those random things I'd been thinking about throughout the year that never seemed to make any sense at the time.

Back then, every single thing was just a separate dot.

Now I'm connecting them.

One dot. Another. Another.

And suddenly there's a whole fucking picture.

All those fucking dots that had been randomly appearing in my head throughout the entire year suddenly make sense.

And I think that's the worst part.

Because now I'm looking back and wondering how many things that I thought were coincidences, or things I simply couldn't explain at the time, were actually part of something I had absolutely no idea about.

And that's why I'm in such complete shock.

It's not just that I found out he had sex with our mutual friend.

It's that suddenly so many things from the past year look completely different.

And I genuinely don't know what the hell I'm supposed to think anymore.

I feel like I'm going to fucking throw up every time I remember all of this.

And then it hit me that on the day we broke up... it happened after a conversation with that friend.

And that friend had been insanely jealous of my partner. I was right when I noticed it back then.

Everyone kept telling me that he was jealous of my partner because of me...

But it was always about HIM.

About THEM.

It was never what I thought it was.

And now I'm looking back at all of those moments and realizing that I was noticing something real. I just had absolutely no idea what I was actually looking at.

that part about the mutual friend really hit me. do you think the hardest part is what they did, or realizing that your gut had been picking up on something real all along?

Honestly... He was the last acquaintance I would have expected this from. Until I connected the dots after everything that happened. I think what hurt me the most was that I wrote to him: How do you see yourself in 5 years? If you're with someone you're currently sleeping with, then the path is clear. And he read the message and didn't reply for many hours. So I decided that silence is an answer, I wrote to him that I didn't want to know him, and then I blocked him at night. At 7 AM, he reacted with a heart to my sister's message, which he had been ignoring for 2 days. And then he called my sister again late in the evening, actually recently, even though he was supposed to be returning to France. My sister showed me, ultimately she didn't answer his call.

i can feel how badly this shattered your whole picture of the past year. i’ve had that awful experience of finding out one thing and suddenly every weird little moment starts lining up in your head, and honestly, that kind of shock made me question my own memory for a while.
