Last June two days after my birthday my partner of a year unexpectedly ended our relationship claiming he no longer loved me and had been "testing" his feelings for weeks. This came out of nowhere especially after he had previously asked me to move in with him and repeatedly blamed his recent distant behavior on work stress. I was devastated by how cold and unfeeling he seemed during the breakup. For two months we stayed in a painful cycle of calling arguing crying and searching for answers before ultimately cutting ties.
It's been a little over a year of no-contact. Although I've made progress I still get caught up in the memories and cry for the best friend I lost. I know he moved on but I'm left wondering if his love was ever real. I still carry a heavy grief—missing who he used to be longing for closure and wishing I could talk to the person I thought I knew.

I went through the exact same thing. It’ll be a full year in October and I am still not over him. I am also emotional and cry a lot and feel deeply. I always joked it was in my Latina genes. He was soft spoken, gentle and very careful with his words. It took him one night to realize he didn’t want me in his life anymore and he broke up with me the next evening.
! I just passed though the same thing - a month before my birthday he started deactivating, nitpicking, complaining, withdrawing. We celebrated our birthday together, he was still nitpicking and putting me down and being emotionally unavailable but went all out with the celebration he had organised before he started withdrawing.
Watching somebody who you plan to life with and who used to look at me like I was the only thing that mattered in the world turn to a cold, calculating unemotional stranger was the worst thing ever.
It may not ever go away, unfortunately. It really depends. I have had some exes that I was able to move on from. It doesn’t mean I don’t care about them still, I just recognize now why we were not a good fit. But I have one ex in particular that I cannot get over and I have come to the conclusion that there are some heartbreaks that never fully heal, you just learn to carry it with you, especially if the relationship was one that you felt deeply seen and understood in.
let's be strong
