After 2.5 years together (starting February 9 2024) my ex and I recently broke up. Throughout our relationship he carried us through long distance and severe family restrictions on my end showing immense patience even when I couldn't be there for him during a lonely move to a new city. By the time my circumstances improved and I tried to make up for lost time the emotional exhaustion had set in leading to daily conflicts and an eventual split.
Now he has shut me out completely and acts like a stranger which hurts deeply—especially while seeing him reference our date February 9th on social media. I know he reached his breaking point after giving everything to us but given his naturally kind and forgiving nature I am desperate to know if this shutdown is permanent or if I can rebuild his trust over time. How can you reconnect with a partner who gave their all but ultimately burned out?

when you look at everything that happened, do you think you want to rebuild trust with him, or are you trying to find a way back to the version of him who used to forgive everything?
i had to learn that when someone is burned out, chasing them with more love can still feel like pressure.
i’ve been the one who kept giving until i had nothing left, and when it ended i went completely cold too. i know it looked cruel from the outside, but i was exhausted and needed distance just to stop reopening the same wounds.
