Why making friends after a breakup feels so hard

I think one way to get over a breakup is to be social and don't isolate yourself. Unfortunately my bestie is living in another country. I have other friends but they are all busy with important stuff in their lives. I'm trying to find people with same interests as mine. I graduated University about 3 years ago and my colleagues are way older than me. So do you have any recommendations?

i had better luck when i stopped trying to “make friends” and just started showing up somewhere i genuinely enjoyed.

what kind of interests do you have that you’d actually enjoy meeting people around?

After breakup, i decided to start dancing. Went to one studio in my town and found girls that also decided to start dancing after breakup. pain that we shared also became a reason why we started healing each other by being together and having fun

Staying social is a good idea, so it's what I have started to try and get into as well. I've just searched up groups or events on Facebook to join. I am now in a few group chats and there are some events coming up that I have added into my calendar. You got this girl! I'm introverted so I'm nervous as heck, but I have to do it at some point.

after my breakup i realized how much of my social life had quietly become tied to that relationship. making new friends felt awkward as hell at first, especially when everyone already seemed to have their own people, but i eventually found a couple of good ones through shared interests.

I think you’re absolutely right. Staying social can make the healing process a little easier, even if it’s just small interactions at first. Maybe try joining local groups, classes, volunteering, sports, or online communities related to your interests. You don’t have to immediately find a new best friend—just putting yourself around people you have something in common with can help a lot. And honestly, I think it’s great that you’re making an effort instead of isolating yourself.
