I was recently dumped over text by my first love after a year and a month together and the guilt is crushing me. Throughout our relationship I consistently failed to prioritize her putting my college work friends and personal time first while neglecting her needs and attention.
Although I often felt caged up and realized we wanted different things I still blame myself for being careless and unthoughtful. Losing her feels unbearable but it took losing her for me to realize how much I needed to change. I feel completely lost deeply depressed and lack the will to keep going. How does anyone actually move past their first major heartbreak?.

i had to figure out how to move past it all at once, and honestly that made every day feel impossible.
that first heartbreak can make every mistake feel ten times bigger because you’re suddenly seeing everything you wish you had done differently. i blamed myself for months too, but realizing what i needed to change became something i carried forward instead of something i used to punish myself.
It gets better...you are your first love and true love ❤️
Please be gentle with yourself. You can acknowledge your mistakes and learn from them without punishing yourself forever. Sometimes losing someone makes us realize things we wish we had understood sooner, but that doesn't mean you're incapable of loving someone the right way. Your first heartbreak is especially painful because you're not just grieving the person, but also the future you imagined with them. Take this time to understand yourself, grow, and learn how to balance love with your own needs. You don't have to become a completely different person overnight. Healing takes time, and one relationship ending doesn't define your worth or your future. Please don't give up on yourself. You deserve the same compassion you're probably wishing you had shown her. ❤️
Breakups are horrible for most people with heart. I’m sorry you’re going through it now for the first time. Just give yourself time and let yourself cry or be sad, whatever your emotions are are totally valid
if you decide its time to move on, its not easy and does not happen overnight. reach out to your cloest friends and focus on activities that could uplift you.
i would recommend writing a list of why you would like her back and the things you need to change. if there is a chance dont leave without trying.. the regret of not trying could eat you alive later on.. remember to not lose yourself in the process.. wishing you the best
