Sometimes I think about how lonely my life felt when he was not in it and how much lonelier it feels now that he’s gone.
I had so much uncertainty in my life and very few people around me, being introverted and awkward around others, and constantly wondering what my future would look like. He was the one constant I had.
I knew all along that he wasn’t completely sure about us. Deep down, I knew I wanted to keep him in my life for as long as possible. I wish I had understood that maybe I didn’t need to keep asking for more. Maybe I could have simply enjoyed the time we had instead of asking for reassurance and putting pressure on something he was already uncertain about.
He didn’t ask much from me. There were no judgments, no expectations, no demands. He gave me company, comfort, and a place where I could forget the stress of everything else in my life for a while.
Maybe I focused too much on the words I wanted to hear instead of recognizing the ways he showed care.
I regret that. Not because my needs were wrong, but because I wish I had understood him better.
Part of me still wishes he would come back someday not so I could ask him for more words or promises, but so I could appreciate him for who he is, understand how he expresses love, and simply be happy with the love and companionship he is able to give.

i’ve felt this kind of loneliness after a breakup, where you miss the person but also miss who you were when they were the one constant in your life. that empty space can feel HUGE when there weren’t many people around you to begin with.
i’ve had to remind myself that regret can make me rewrite the whole relationship. i can wish i’d understood someone better and still admit that wanting reassurance was a real need for me.
you think you miss him as he actually was, or the sense of safety and certainty you had when he was there?
That’s right! Thinking about him brings back the same feelings of confusion and uncertainty. I just silenced my voice many times and stayed for the fear of losing him…almost felt like I was being slaved. I know I couldn’t ever be that so I chose to do whatever I did.
thanks for bringing me to clarity
