It’s been two and a half years since my ex obliterated my heart, and despite doing everything right—therapy, strict no contact, and practicing radical acceptance—I still think about him constantly. He was the biggest love of my life, and although I'm currently nine months into a relationship with the kindest man I've ever met, my heart just isn't fully in it.
I carry a constant, lingering sadness over losing my ex, and I live in fear that I'll never meet someone who makes me feel that way again. Is it possible I'll be heartbroken forever, or will I eventually be able to love someone fully again?

this hurt to read because i know how exhausting it is to do EVERYTHING right and still wake up missing them
when you picture your life without your ex ever coming back, do you think you’re grieving him specifically, or the way you felt when you were with him?
that weird guilt of loving someone new while still carrying so much for an ex. i spent years thinking one person had taken a piece of my heart with them, and that fear felt very real.
wow sounds like my story. I am struggling so hard to move on. I have got the kind of person I always wanted or how I wanted my ex to behave, but its so hard to move on I think of him every hour every day constantly hoping maybe someday.
I can't comment much, as I am going through my first heartbreak, and it's only been a month. I actually didn't know it could last that long, I guess it's different for everyone. From me (I may be wrong), I don't think you'll be heartbroken forever, I think eventually you will love someone fully, but your ex may always have a special place in your heart, because he was a very big part of it. Does your current bf know about how you're feeling in terms of the sadness about your ex and your current relationship? You deserve another chance at love, so I'm glad for you if you feel he could be the one. Hope everything works out for you 💛
