First night alone: moving out after three years

Author

Tonight is my first night in my new place after leaving my partner of three years. We didn't break up because we stopped loving each other but because our relationship became trapped in a loop of constant arguing resentment and poor communication. I knew we couldn't heal while living together so I moved out.
We plan to go no contact once our old house is sorted. We are technically single but we agreed to work on ourselves rather than immediately move on. Still sitting alone in this empty space is brutal. I miss him I miss our home and I am grieving the future we never got to build. It’s heartbreaking to love someone deeply while knowing being together was no longer healthy.
Has anyone else walked away from a relationship while still in love? How did you survive those first nights alone and did the space eventually bring you clarity?

Has anyone been through this and managed to repair?

Yes, this has been me, i chose to leave. Over time i have reflected and realized how much i shrunk myself to keep somebody else happy and at no point did she take accountability or want to lose that her behavior was abuse. It was the single most difficult thing i have done in my life.

I’m at that point now. All of the same issues, plus his anger keeps getting worse. I’m at the “this has to end” part. But still love him deeply. I’ve been pushing for us to stay together but it’s just too damaged. I keep hoping for what was. This is a pain I have tried to avoid because being in it is the worst feeling I’ve ever had in my life.

This is extremely common. Splitting is never easy but you did it for a reason. We start missing the best parts and what could’ve been but the reality is the worst parts eventually became too much.
