Why am i feeling empty after my breakup?

I've already gotten over the idea that it's over and there's no going back, but even when I'm having good times and not thinking about him, I feel my breathing slow down and my heart beat faster. Every time I see something that reminds me of him, I try to ignore it, but I can only keep thinking about him and our past relationship. Now I no longer feel sadness, just an emptiness.

this one hit me because i remember getting past the crying and then wondering why i still felt so empty. i could have a genuinely good day and still feel that weird heaviness in my chest when something reminded me of him.

when my mind stopped begging for them back but my body still reacted like they were there. what helped me was letting those reminders come and go instead of fighting every single thought about the past.

do you think the emptiness is more about missing him, or missing who you were when you were with him?

I feel the exact same way.
he broke up with me almost 3 weeks ago, I would NEVER have expected it.
As sad, down, or angry as I may have been over the past 3 weeks, lately i've been feeling the same way you do: I feel empty.
I feel like no matter how much I do for myself, or whatever distracts me, it's never the same.
This feeling of emptiness reminds me a lot of being disoriented/lost, and maybe it's because I still have to learn to live with this new me: after all, he was part of my everyday's routine. ig that after all this time it's normal not to be able to 1)immediately understand what's happening (especially the first few days when it hasn't been metabolized) and 2)learn a new lifestyle from one day to the next.
