I broke up with my ex 4 days ago. We only dated for 3 months but this is hurting more than any of my other relationships. we’re both 20, we ended on good terms. he wanted to stay friends and I initially said yes, we continued talking (less than normal) for 2 days, but today I just got a feeling that I wouldn’t be able to move on if he was still at arms reach. we live close to each other, he works in my local shop and we go to the same gym, I will have to see him around. we ended because “he wasn’t ready for a relationship” but just last week we were so good, I’ve never been more comfortable in a relationship ever. I found him when I wasn’t looking and now he’s gone when I need him the most. he originally wanted “a break”, a break where we still messaged normally but didn’t plan meet ups. I was confused by this as we only saw each other once a week anyway as I’m doing an apprenticeship 8am-6pm and he’s in college midweek with a weekend job. we were busy and that was fine (for me) but he felt as if he couldn’t be busy and have me by his side at the same time, this hurt, I always had his needs in front of my own. and the second things got tough for him it just felt like I was pushed to the side. so I ended it, I couldn’t wait with the uncertainty.
am I over reacting by constantly crying and thinking of him? or is anyone else going through something similar?

four days is NOTHING, especially when someone made you feel more comfortable than anyone before them. i dated someone for a few months and cried harder over that breakup than relationships that lasted years, because i'd already started imagining what life with them could look like.
i think ending it when you couldn't handle the uncertainty anymore took guts. i've learned the hard way that staying friends while secretly hoping they'll change their mind can keep you stuck for ages, and seeing him around will be hard enough without having him a text away.
when he said he wasn't ready for a relationship, did he explain what had changed so suddenly? i can imagine how confusing it must feel when things seemed so good just a week before.
I got no explanation on what changed so suddenly. he said he was “just too busy” but his schedule didn’t get any busier within a week. it was the same and we had made it work for months. I what hurts the most is that it was so unexpected.
