my ex would shut down the second anything uncomfortable came up, and when someone finally confronted him, he just got more defensive and disappeared for a while. it didn't bring the closure any of us thought it would.

yeah I'm thinking he'll be defensive as well and shut down. I don't want this to set things back. I've already been working hard on no contact.

i'd be careful. when i wanted to confront my avoidant ex, i realized i was hoping he'd finally understand my pain and respond differently. he didn't. what helped me more was focusing on what i needed, not what i wished he'd admit.

yeah I think accountability is hard for avoidants because it's the exact opposite of avoiding when you face yourself.

who is wanting to confront your ex, and what are they hoping will come from it? do they want accountability, answers, or are they trying to protect you from something?

this person is a teacher who knows us both. I think they want answers for themselves but they are not respecting my wishes. I don't see this going well and my ex is not expecting that conversation to happen.

I feel like confronting an avoidant is fine the first time but if they prove to be a die hard avoidant you’re probably going to waist a lot of energy being avoided. Some people just don’t want to deal/want to be left alone.
