How to cope after a breakup: little tips that helped me

here are things that i did that surprisingly make it a lot easier:
-if you can’t unfollow them/block them
on instagram (i can’t bc my ex is in an ec with me where i need to be able to communicate with me for work purposes) MUTE THEIR POSTS, STORIES, NOTES ETC! i had no idea you could do this and it really is a game changer.
-i find it really painful to go and delete all the pictures because you have to look at them while you do it. on the photos app, you can mute them so they don’t show up on featured photos etc
-delete the messages girl. just do it. going through old messages is what got me to break no contact. i’ve deleted all of them and i feel like a weight has been taken off of my chest.
-write a letter to yourself reminding you of all his bad qualities and all your good qualities. (i would do this when you are in a good mood so it is actually genuine) and re read it when you miss him.
-before you go to bed think about YOU. the person you are, the person you wanna be and the person you will grow into as you heal.

you guys got this, and i hope this helps :)

i couldn't block my ex either, so muting everything saved me more than i expected. i stopped getting hit with random reminders every time i opened my phone, and that alone made the days feel lighter.

how long did it take before you noticed these little changes actually started making the no contact feel easier?

honestly what really propelled me to actually move on is what he said to me when i broke no contact. he told me that he was completely over it, the happiest he has ever been and that he doesn’t want me anymore. i’m not sure if it’s a lie or not but it doesn’t matter. it’s the fact that my delusion and fantasy was completely shattered. i cried the entire night and felt really really shitty. that was 3 days ago. that night is when i did all the stuff with social media and photos. the next day, in the evening i was feeling better and that’s when i wrote the note to myself. my ex is an avoidant attachment ive learned (ty reddit) so i understand that he a) prob isnt going to be “living his best life” in a few months and b) that i dodged a bullet because being with someone who avoids their feelings is a horrible horrible idea. last night i was just thinking abt my personal essay that i have to write for college and it really branched out more to me thinking about the person i am, specially the parts of me that i am proud of. i think the most helpful thing is to separate urself from ur ex and really remember that version of urself and try to get it back and better than ever. that i realize now is the first time in a month that i went to bed without thinking abt him and i woke up and felt AMAZING. genuinely the first time since the breakup that i woke up and felt good. i’m not saying break contact to see what they say whatsoever. i’m saying maybe assume the worst? like my situation, and it will really help you move on. with the socials and stuff, knowing that i won’t see his stories or posts or notes when i go on the app makes me feel so much better, because i know i won’t be surprised with his profile icon or anything like that and it also helps me not think about him constantly because he posts so many notes so my brain starts to think abt everything the second i see the post. hope that helps!

thank you for sharing this list, it’s amazing! I’ve done some of these and they have helped. I want to add:

- deactivate Instagram if you can’t stop yourself from going to their profile. first change your password to something you won’t remember, send it to a trusted person and ask them to not give it to you for X amount of days, and then deactivate and delete any trace of that new password on your phone. totally elimates the ability to go on it.

I wrote a letter to myself to read when he tries to come back because he will. 10 years of him circling back every 5 to 6 months. the letter is to remind myself of everything I fealt from this break up. I hope it makes me never let him back in and break the toxic cycle.
