How to move on after a long relationship

Author

hey i was with my bf for three years before we broke up a couple months ago and that was basically most of my adult life. when you spend that much time with someone especially while you’re still growing into yourself it feels like you both shape each other in so many ways.
i know i can block him hide our photos and remove reminders but i can’t erase the impact he had on my life. he introduced me to some of my favorite music influenced my humor shared little phrases and habits with me changed the way i think about certain things and left memories attached to so many parts of my life. he was a huge part of who i became and honestly i don’t want to pretend that never happened.
but how do i accept that without feeling crushed every time i think about it for too long? am i supposed to stop listening to songs i love because they remind me of him? am i supposed to distance myself from the parts of me that came from that relationship?
how do you keep the good things someone gave you without letting the loss of them hurt so much?

i stopped trying to erase everything because it just made me miss him more. i kept the music i loved, even when it stung, and one day i caught myself singing without thinking about him first.

i was with my ex through my early twenties too, and for a while it felt like every song, every joke, every little habit belonged to us. it took me forever to believe those parts of me were still mine.

it's not something that just goes away. It'll always be there. Even in the future, when you've completely moved on, a memory of him might suddenly come back. It sucks.

lock them away in a separate folder or box and dont look at them until you are healed.
