Why does every breakup conversation leave me feeling sad?

Author

i just had another breakup conversation and honestly i’m feeling pretty sad. this one hurts more than the ones before because i really had high hopes for it.
lately i feel like i’m getting clearer about what i actually want in a partner although maybe i’m also just collecting more triggers and preferences along the way lol. the harder part is realizing that more clarity can also mean more endings.
my last serious relationship ended in january and i’ve struggled with it since. she was the first person i could truly picture building a future with. but when she started a stressful job i became really unhappy with how she handled that stress and eventually i made the decision to end things.
i keep feeling stuck between two extremes when dating. some people seem unsure about commitment and don’t really know what they want while others have their entire future planned out and leave no room for another person’s voice. i really struggle with that second kind.
the last two women i dated were very certain they wanted biological children but it felt like the decision had already been made without really including me in the conversation. to me a relationship should be a partnership where two people build a life together. Big decisions like having kids where to live finances and how to spend your time should come from shared conversations and compromise.
what i value most is the feeling of creating something together dreaming together and making choices as a team. instead i’ve met people who already have their whole life mapped out and it feels like i’m only being invited to join their plan rather than help create our future.
that feeling has brought up a lot of anger and frustration. it makes me feel like i’m being treated like an accessory instead of an equal partner. i don’t want a relationship where one person’s dreams automatically take priority and the other person just adjusts.
i feel like i’ve been clear about wanting a real partnership for years. i have strong friendships a stable career good finances and a life i’m proud of but i still haven’t found the person who wants to build something together.
i’m honestly exhausted and wondering if it’s still realistic to hope for a life partner. sometimes it feels like everyone who wanted the kind of relationship i’m looking for already found it.

You say you have a certain idea of how you want your relationships to look/what you want in a partner but then get mad at women for doing the exact same thing- seeking what they want?

Yes, you still have time.

everyone is entitled to their own dreams and goals. If they don't align with yours then they aren't your person. what you are asking for isn't unrealistic, you will find it. In the meantime maybe keep learning and growing and just dating for fun rather than being locked in to finding a life partner. Life rarely works that way.

You left her because she had a stressful job? 🥺 That’s says more about you than her…
What’s the problem with someone with firm lifegoals? If they want something different than you it doesn’t make them a bad person
