Did i cause the breakup? understanding your role

Author

Sometimes the hardest part of losing someone isn’t losing them. It’s believing that you were the reason they left.

You replay every conversation, every argument, every mistake. You wonder if you had been more patient, more understanding, less emotional, less demanding. perhaps they would have stayed.

You carry the weight of every “what if” until regret begins to feel like truth.

But a relationship does not end because of one person alone. There are two people, two hearts, two perspectives, and two sets of choices.

You can take accountability for the things you could have done better without carrying the entire weight of the ending on your shoulders.

Sometimes, you loved imperfectly. Sometimes, you reacted from fear. Sometimes, you made mistakes. That does not make you unworthy of love, nor does it mean you were the sole reason the relationship ended.

You are allowed to acknowledge your mistakes without turning them into a sentence against yourself.

Because there is a difference between saying, *“I made mistakes,”* and believing, *“I was the mistake.”*

The first is accountability.

The second is self-abandonment.

And healing begins when you finally learn to tell the difference.

letting myself admit where i messed up without turning every mistake into “i ruined everything.” i could own my part without carrying the whole breakup on my back.

i still wonder sometimes, “what if i'd handled that one moment differently?” how do you tell the difference between real regret and blaming yourself because you miss them?

I understand your feeling. I also always tell myself “what if I didn’t react that much? Will we breakup?”. Well, maybe we won’t, but it means we were enduring something. It doesn’t erase what he did as well ^^

It is very easy for an empath to blame ourselves, but relationship takes 2 people to carry. Forgive yourself for your part and forgive that person as well even though he never apologized. Life will be easier when we accept ^^

blaming myself for every little thing after a breakup. i replayed conversations so many times that i started believing every mistake was proof i didn't deserve to be loved.

oh dear, please don’t think you don’t deserve to be loved. I know it’s hard to accept the situation and it needs practice to realize that you are deserved everything in this world. may time heal your tender and soft heart ♥️ sending hugs from far and if you ever need me, talk to me here

These are really valuable words, right now I blame myself for everything, I keep thinking if I had done something differently, if I had been different everything would have been fine, I keep seeing him as good and myself as bad, because he left me and chose himself, but I'm slowly coming to the realization that there's not just one guilty person, that my behavior, emotions also reflected the fact that he didn't put any effort into the relationship at certain moments, but I keep justifying and justifying him, because I believe in love, I believe that when both people want to, they can do anything, but it's a real shame that in my case he chose to give up and build a life anew alone, and in the future with another person, and what hurts the most is probably the fact that I know that he will give his new girlfriend everything that I asked him to give me

dear, let him be whatever he wants. do you think human can change that much? I dated someone in the past and he broke up with his ex for certain reason. It was weird to hear that, but after a while, he broke up with me for the same reason 😂 you know, maybe he just looks like giving his best to his new person, but believe it, the demon is still there. I hope you heal and be kind to yourself from now on ^^ you are too precious for someone “maybe”

wow this speaks to me … I used to blame myself so much for our breakup and i acknowledged my mistakes and I apologized for them and I was willing to make it work I was so transparent to him but at the end of the day the more I tried the more he played victim and the more he found other reasons not to make it work until wen u decided that enough is enough it’s day 13 am not reaching out am not looking for explanations am not begging to be understood or sending long paragraphs or over calling and yeah it’s the best choice I’ve ever made for myself accepting what it is and let them do whatever they would rather do

I wish you know that it takes a lot of self awareness and courage to acknowledge your part! be proud of that ^^ not everyone has capacity to see inner world and it is easier to blame someone else. sending you hugs and love, dear ❤️ I also experienced the same as you when he still protecting his ego 😭
