Why did my two-year relationship end without a villain?

Author

My ex and I were together for two years. For the most part we had a really good relationship even though we had our disagreements. A few months ago he decided to end things and moved out.
It’s been especially hard because he’s genuinely a great person. He didn’t hurt me or do anything wrong. But I think sometimes the hardest breakups are the ones where there’s no villain. You still love someone but they no longer feel the same way and that indifference hurts more than I expected.
We tried staying friends and moving forward but he’s already moved on. On the rare occasions he’s been willing to meet up I’ve realized I still want more at least for now.
So a few days ago I blocked his number and social media. I feel like it’s something I need to do if I’m ever going to move forward but I miss him so much. The immediate aftermath has been really painful.
Was blocking him too much or am I doing what I need to do to finally let go?

i did the same thing when i realised friendship was hurting me more than the breakup itself.

You did the right thing by blocking him, even if your heart doesnt want to. You dont have to move on, you just have to move forward. The hardest heartbreaks are the ones where there is no villian, hopefully there could be something you can hate about him? But as I always tell myself, dont fight for a love that didnt want to stay.

if you’re honest with yourself, do you think staying in contact would give you peace, or keep a little part of you waiting for him to change his mind?

my ex was a genuinely good person too, and that almost made it harder because i had nobody to be angry at. blocking him hurt like hell at first, but i needed that distance because every little bit of contact kept me hoping.

No. It’s better for truly healing. “Just friends” almost never, ever works. The pain of someone moving on faster than you is awful to watch. It doesn’t have to be forever, but it’s probably what you need. I blocked my ex

if you feel like blocking him gives you power do it. I wish I could do that but im doings well in no contact been almost 60 days I realized if he wanted to reach out to me he would so why bother doing ut to him when he clearly doesnt want to be bothered by me and we were together 8 years plus

so like if the other person doesn't wanna be with you, it's better that you don't force them to. Like it's not fair for them because they did hard thing to move on and if you try to force them back to your life it's totally unfair.
so for the time being focus on yourself become something you wanted to become long ago. move on. be better. show the world you can be better.
and yeah you are doing what was really needed to finally let go.
