How long before you consider dating again after a breakup?

Author

How long did it take you guys to even consider getting with someone else after a breakup? Even if it wasn’t anything serious.

I’ve seen so many discussions about this online but never really found an answer. I’m just asking because I’m curious how it was for other people, especially when you were still healing after a long-term relationship.
I’ve never had anything romantic with anyone other than him, so I honestly have no idea what’s normal or how people even approach that after a breakup. I’m definitely not looking to jump into anything and want to focus on myself first, I’m just curious how it was for other people.

I don't think there is a set timeline for anyone. I know people that divorce and find fulfilling relationships after. It probably is easier to process feelings as we get to those ages. I think psychologically speaking, after 4 months is ideal since most/all of the processing of the breakup is complete.

i remember wondering the exact same thing, like am i supposed to wait until i’m fully healed before liking someone again? do you think you’re asking because you feel ready someday, or because you’re worried there’s a “normal” timeline you’re supposed to follow?

Lowkey I have no idea. I think I’m asking because I’m starting to think about what it would even be like to get with someone new. In my head, it definitely couldn’t be anything serious yet, but I’m wondering if that would be disrespectful or even a good idea. I’m not planning to act on it right now, I’m just trying to figure out if I’m even okay with the thought of it.

for me, there was no set timeline. i started feeling open to meeting people again when i stopped comparing every person to my ex, and that took longer than i expected.

after my long-term relationship ended i couldn’t even imagine flirting with someone else for a while. the idea felt so strange when my heart was still very much attached to one person.

I got into a situationship pretty fast right after I got cheated on by my long term partner and it’s definitely good to take some time between moving on with someone because I moved fast and I got attached too quickly and everything kinda went downhill. I should have taken time after that relationship.

I definitely suggest taking some time for you but talking to someone can’t hurt either if your interested. Just whenever you feel ready. I think mine has gotten with someone after a few weeks but I’m not ready I’ve had people contact me and I just have no desire yet. I think you’ll know when your ready, it’s probably differnt for everyone so just if you feel interested go for it but if not then don’t. You definitely want to heal and not bring another person into something of your still not over them. But everyone is different so do what makes you happy
