Update: He replied to me standing up for myself. He said he thinks there’s no point in discussing everything now that we’ve already broken up, but he "acknowledged his part and apologizes for the things he did that hurt me" - that's all he said to all my hurt but ig i have to live with that dry apology.
He said he wants to end things peacefully and is okay with my dad being present in the flat when he collects his things (but he is still annoyed by it).
Honestly, I have mixed feelings. Part of me is relieved that he accepted the arrangement, but another part of me is frustrated that he didn’t say anything beyond his dry apology. I spent so long holding everything in, and now that I finally said how much he hurt me, he basically doesn't care anymore and just wants to close the chapter and move on.
..this whole message felt so emotionless that the apology feels fake to me. I guess I got the practical solution I wanted, but emotionally, I still don’t know how to feel about any of it.
Even though everyone has told me how badly he treated me, I still loved him for two years. It’s hard to accept that someone who meant so much to me feels like a complete stranger now.

Here’s a way of getting emotional release but maybe have a friend nearby or on call, as you do it, or book an appointment with a therapist.
Write an unsent letter, from his point of view, about what you wish he told you. Seriously. I’ve done this. Like hey, X, this is what I wish you said ‘etc etc etc’ and then read it out loud. Hqve a picture of him on your phone and just read it to the picture.
Then do it again but this time read it as though you are saying it from you, to you. Have a picture of yourself on the phone, preferably from being 4, or 5.
You’re going to cry… a lot. Bur those are words you need to hear. Not from him, but from yourself. You think he let you down by not being who you wanted him to be. That’s true grief. But deeper down you’ll also figure out that you let yourself down by thinking he’d ever become that person, but all is not lost, my dear, you can give yourself that closure.
Maybe light a candle or something then blow it off when done with this letter business. If yoh do it, lmk how it went
Thank you so much for all your kind words and for taking the time to comment on so many of my posts. I really appreciate it. ❤️ And thank you for the suggestion too. I'm not sure if I want to do it right now, because I'm finally starting to detach from him, and honestly, I think being angry at him is helping me see things more clearly instead of romanticising what we had. I don't really want to put myself through all of that emotionally again.
If you read my newest post, you'll see that I got my ending. It wasn't a good one, but it was the kind of ending I expected from him, and I think I need to accept that and see him for who he actually is instead of who I wanted him to be. I've already thrown away the sentimental things he gave back to me, and I feel like it's time to let go, heal, and eventually find someone who treats me the way I deserve. If I do try your suggestion at some point, I'll definitely let you know how it went. Thank you again for being so kind. 🫶
my ex sent me one of those cold, formal text messages after two years together, and reading those detached words felt like getting slapped in the face. it breaks your heart all over again to realize the person you loved has completely checked out and turned into a cold stranger.
when i got that empty corporate apology from my ex, i had to stop looking for him to validate my pain and start giving myself permission to be mad. you don't need his permission or a real apology to know that what he did HURT, so let yourself hate how he handled this without feeling guilty about it.
does having your dad there for the move-out give you a little relief, or does the whole thing just feel heavy right now
both tbh it feels really horrible because i feel like he will definitely block me when he got his stuff. But at the same time I'm just glad he didn’t AGAIN get what he wanted and my dad will be able to supervise what he takes.
