me and my girlfriend ended things after a little over a year together. She wasn’t just my partner she was my best friend and my favorite person. We had this effortless connection the same sense of humor similar interests and we could always be completely ourselves around each other.
I loved her so deeply that I was willing to make huge sacrifices even putting some career opportunities aside for a future with her. But she just wasn’t ready. One day she would tell me she loved me and wanted a future together and the next she would question everything and pull away.
I kept hoping she didn’t mean it when she said she couldn’t give me what I needed. But last night she finally opened up and told me the truth. She doesn’t feel mentally ready to love someone the way a serious relationship requires. She doesn’t have the capacity for the commitment I was hoping for. As much as it hurts I had to accept that this was ending whether I wanted it to or not.
I feel completely broken right now. I’ve had this heavy feeling in my chest all day and I can barely eat. I’ve been around people pretending I’m okay holding everything in until I’m alone and it all comes crashing down.
This was the most intense and meaningful relationship I’ve ever had and it hurts knowing something so special still couldn’t work. I can’t keep waiting for someone to be ready while losing pieces of myself in the process.

my ex was my best friend too, and losing the relationship felt like losing my whole safe place. i kept hoping he'd be ready someday
I know its hard believe me I do. but I am so proud of you for not waiting around for someone who isn't ready to receive the love you have to offer it is a beautiful thing when we choose our self worth over loving someone else the journey is had but it is worth it.
i couldn't eat much either after mine ended.😢
was there a part of you that already knew she couldn't meet you where you were, even before she finally said it out loud?
One day at a time, friend
I am so sorry. I am going through exactly the same thing. Accepting is the biggest hurdle.
